Dedicating a child to the Lord is a great honor and privilege. In doing so, we recognize that nothing is our own—not even our children. Children are a gift from God. As Christian parents seek to establish their family in God’s ways and purposes, we charge the parents, the Church community, and the family with the responsibility of raising the child in the precepts of the Lord.
We follow the example of Hannah in the Bible, who was barren and earnestly prayed for a child. After God answered her prayer, she dedicated her son, Samuel, to the Lord for serving in God’s house all the days of his life (1 Samuel 1). Similarly, we entrust God with the spiritual development of the precious child with which He has blessed our lives. In doing this, we are really dedicating ourselves as parents to do all in our power to bring our children to a time when they will accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.
Our denomination does not believe in the concept of infant baptism. Therefore, a baby dedication ceremony is not “baby baptism.” It is not a time when sins are forgiven, but rather it is the time when you covenant with God and the Church to the task of raising your child to love, trust, and obey God.
Four Sundays have been selected as opportunities for parents to have a child dedicated to the Lord. Register below for child dedication on either March 19, June 18, September 17, or December 17, 2017.
